We are going to run a new poll on our website relating to the worst road in Darwen. Many of our roads have been neglected and are in much need of repair, but some are worse than others.

The temporary fixes, filling in pot holes, simply isn't working in many cases and it isn't long before the hole re-opens again.

A few areas spring to mind straight away - the A666 in Earcroft, the junction with Hollins Grove St and Goose House Lane and Harwood St but we want to gather at least five of the worst affected roads to feature in our new poll - discuss the state of local roads in this forum and we'll start the new poll next week.

Perhaps the Beatles lyrics should be changed to 4,000 holes in Darwen, Lancashire! Then again if Blackburn Council were to perform a new road survey they might actually find that the number of potholes in the area has increased!

I'd like to nominate Falcon Avenue. It hasn't been maintained for years, especially the pavement. There is a cut-out near it's junction with Bolton road which some drivers think is a parking bay. The council ought to fix this right now.

Some time ago Falcon Avenue was designated a heritage area but when we joined Blackburn in the unitary council the plans for improving it were somehow lost. No surprises there then.

I'd also like the yellow lines at the end putting right, but the "For Darwen Party" put a stop to that. Lazy motorists park at the end of the street and create problems for other motorists trying to get in and out. Perhaps when there is an accident someone will do something about it.

Please vote for Falcon Avenue as being the worst street in Darwen.

Thanks Joe.

Improving the image submission process is one of the improvements we are making. There is going to be a dedicated gallery area of the forum for uploading and commenting on images.

The roads don't bother me to be honest, if they were any smoother they would end up covered in speed humps.

It's the dog turd and litter on the pavements which gets me going.

Admin: New thread about dog muck on our streets/pathways - http://www.darwenonline.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=167

Feel free to continue the debate about roads in this thread though

It looks like the council are going to make another patch up to the Falcon Avenue entry to this competition. :D They put traffic cones at the end of the street over the weekend. Mind you it could be weeks before they actually do the work.

I don't believe it! They've been and patched up the road where the signs were. There is a large manhole in the road here so it needed repairing quickly. They haven't touched the other holes though.
